Pencil Shading-Basics
You will need the following materials:
1.   Pencils: HB,2B and 4B
The HB pencil is medium dark and appropriate for sketching. The 2B pencil is softer and darker while 4B is the darkest of them all. 2B and 4B pencils are used for shading.
2.   Eraser: A good quality soft, (vinyl) eraser is as important as the pencil.
3.   A piece of cotton cloth / tissue paper: To spread and soften the pencil shading.
4.   Sharpener: For sharpening HB pencils. It is advisable not to use sharpener for 2B and 4B pencils.
5.   Cutter: For making paper stencils and for sharpening 2B and 4B pencils. It is also used to powder the pencil lead which is required for pencil shading.
Tip: Buy the best brand of pencil shading set such as FABER CASTELL.

Note:
1.   As you start shading the landscape, your hands tend to get dirty with lead powder. This has to be avoided. It might spoil your pictures.
2.   Don’t be in a hurry while you draw the picture. It will result in an untidy picture.
3.   Always remember, practice makes a man perfect.
4.   After you finish drawing, compare your picture with the original sketch. It will help you to change the necessary changes.
5.   Always work from top to bottom of the page.
6.   Always choose the right pencil.
